My new team and I have identified the opportunity to serve clients across Africa. These clients have been left without investment advice for years as most of the big investment houses and banks pulled out of Africa. The opportunity involves working closely with accounting firms and other Carrick partners across Africa to build a long term sustainable new business pipeline and to assist clients in their financial needs.

What is the best part about your job?

I’m in a position to get to know my clients on a very personal level, understand their life goals and aspirations and then build a financial plan to support their goals.

Tell us about your personal and professional growth while working at Carrick.

I believe that being involved with new groundbreaking projects and being allowed to use all my creativity, skills and years of experience to build new financial solutions has contributed the most to my personal and professional growth. I have met the most incredible people along the way that had an impact on this growth.

What is a typical day at work like for you?

My day will start by getting up to speed with world events and market news, followed by planning for the week and day ahead. Then it is working through my to do lists making sure I don’t miss any details whilst focusing on my client meetings.

Paul has brought to Carrick Investment Services over thirty years of experience in the financial services industry. He began his financial services career at a young age, working for a business in which his family owned a stake. After his father retired and sold his shares, Paul took up a role at Lloyds TSB Private Bank in Malaysia as Vice President. He later helped the business relocate to Singapore, where he too established a new home.

Shortly thereafter, he joined Coutts Bank Schweiz as a senior private banker. In 2004, Paul obtained a license via the Monetary Authority of Singapore to establish Jigsaw Wealth Management, which ultimately became one of the largest expat-focused accredited investor-based businesses in Singapore. He simultaneously established international wealth management services provider, Pearl River Capital in Hong Kong and Tokyo.

After over 20 years spent working in the Far East, Paul relocated to his hometown of Guernsey where he branched back into banking for two years. Looking to create opportunities to re-enter the wealth management space, he moved his family over to Mauritius in April 2022.

Focusing on helping African clients protect their wealth by investing in global markets, was too big an opportunity for Paul to miss. His knowledge and experience in the financial services industry will be of great value in helping clients put plans in place to meet their long-term objectives.

Through my knowledge and experience I look forward to growing the Carrick Wealth team in Durban and to assist all the Wealth Specialists in successfully developing and growing their practices in order to become a ‘trusted  advisor’ and, as such, are indispensable to their clients.

What is the best part about your job?

The best part is knowing, as a team leader, that I have been able to positively impact on the growth and development of my colleagues and their business. As an advisor, it is ensuring that I have provided my clients with the highest standard of professional advice and service, thus becoming their ‘trusted advisor’ and being indispensable to them.

What is a typical day at work like for you?

My typical day at work consists of a combination of assisting the Wealth Specialists with the ongoing growth, management and development of their practices as well as ensuring that I am growing, developing, and maintaining my own client base.

Tell us about how you contribute to the success of Carrick Wealth as an organization.

I contribute to the success of Carrick by adding value for my clients on an ongoing basis and ensuring that their needs and expectations are fully. Furthermore, I also always make sure that I protect the Carrick brand and uphold the organisation’s values of integrity, transparency and professionalism.

What is the best part about your job?

The best part of my work is meeting and conversing with prospective clients from different spheres and different parts of the world. I truly enjoy getting to know their dreams and aspirations and then matching that with the Carrick service offering to turn them into reality. I find true comfort in assisting all my clients.

Tell us about your personal and professional growth while working at Carrick.

I have learnt so much working for Carrick. In my time here, I have sharpened my ability to absorb information, traditions, and cultural norms from around the world; to maintain a global mind-set; and to endlessly think outside the box.

What is a typical day at work like for you?

Typically, a workday involves touching base with all my clients, speaking and meeting with prospective clients, and reading up on international news in order to stay in the know with what is going on in the market.

Michelina Chindiya

Tell us about how you contribute to the success of Carrick Wealth as an organization.

I work as a Wealth Specialist and contribute to the success of the company by really pushing the Carrick brand in the best way possible. I do so by being a good brand ambassador on whatever public platform I may be featured on, be it on BBC or Bloomberg, at workshops, or at networking events. I carry myself in a way that will represent the company in the best light possible, because working for Carrick as a Financial Advisor is something that I am very proud of.

What is the best part about your job?

The best part of my job is the fact that I get to sit in front of people such as fathers who are concerned about the wellbeing of their families, mothers who want the best education for their children, or just couples who are serious about their retirement. As such I have the opportunity to help them secure their financial future and gain peace of mind, which is something that I cherish.

Tell us about your personal and professional growth while working at Carrick.

Working at Carrick has helped me develop a lot of self-confidence which I have applied in various aspects of my life. And I have learnt to listen, to pay attention, and to actively demonstrate to others that I truly value their opinions and what they have to say, whether they are my clients or my colleagues.  I have also learnt to cut out any distractions that impede my ability to listen.

What is a typical day at work like for you?

My day begins early in the morning with me spending at least half of every day pounding the pavement developing a referral network or meeting with prospects in person. I also spend time establishing a strong digital presence and writing articles and posts for my LinkedIn page. As a Financial Advisor, I spend time servicing existing clients and reviewing client portfolios, answering client inquiries, and addressing outstanding issues before moving on to new business. This approach is also the best way to generate new business because clients who receive excellent service are happy clients who will make referrals. So prospecting, meeting clients, closing sales, marketing, customer service, and administration are the order of the day.
