What is the best part about your job?

The best part of my job is getting to meet different people on a daily basis and going through what life was like before, what life is like right now and then coming together in starting to shape and form what it is going to be. Getting to know my clients ambitions and aspirations and seeing those come to fruition is really a rewarding experience. “A full circle” type of moment.

I have learnt and developed a lot during my time at Carrick. The ability to be nimble and aware of the ever changing financial environment we live in everyday is a skill that I have honed and developed into becoming a global minded citizen. While working at Carrick I started in a junior position as a Business Development Specialist. Over the years I worked my way up into the role of a Private Wealth Manager

What is a typical day at work like for you?

A typical day involves me having an early catch up on international market trends of the day. This then directly goes into meeting with prospective clients through the morning and the afternoon as we map their financial futures together. Servicing is a large part of my job that I ensure is administered at a very high level therefore meeting with my clients in order to give them a holistic overview is something I add to my calendar for the day.

I contribute to the organisation in many ways, firstly my 5 years experience in the financial industry helps me navigate the objections of the job easily. I am goal oriented and I enjoy learning because the macro-economic factors affecting the global economic industry change on a daily (one literally has to be on their feet all the time). Lastly I am self-motivated, I am not easily discouraged. I have an excellent team backing me up and supporting me which makes everything easier. “Team work makes the dream work”.

What is the best part about your job?

Changing people’s lives is the best part of my job. Creating financial sustainability is a privilege many people have not experienced, especially in many African countries. There’s a huge gap for financial literacy. This means I am part of an assignment that brings change to the world at large. My job gives me an opportunity to help change lives from one family to the another. I am an advocate for educational planning on the continent and I am a part of a bigger assignment for the world. We are what this generation has been waiting for.

What is a typical day at work like for you?

My day starts way too early for my liking, I try to get in some morning exercise before heading into the office. I like to start my workday by reading up on current affairs articles and market commentary over a cup of tea. Then I plan my day and start meeting with clients to provide financial planning advice. At the end of the day, I get through some admin work, reflect on the day’s activities and plan for tomorrow.

I am a Private Wealth Manager and work with two Business Development Specialists. I keep my teammates hyped up as I exert a lot of energy and positivity in the office. I am a fun person, loud and full of love and want everyone around me to be happy.

What is the best part about your job?

The best part of what I do is that I get to meet different people and hear, share and take part in their life journeys. I love people and therefore also any opportunity to sit and listen and help them achieve their dreams. I love the fact that what I do will impact them 10, 15 or 20 years from now. And I treasure all the relationships I have and am building with my clients that go beyond just financial planning, so much so that we become like family. Nothing gives me greater joy than meeting with people and getting to know them and learning how I can add any value to their lives, no matter how little.

Tell us about your personal and professional growth while working at Carrick.

I joined the company in January 2015, so I am part of the furniture. Professionally I have grown from being an assistant in 2015 and 2016 to going through the training successfully and becoming a Private Wealth Manager in January 2017.  Again, this was because my passion is in being with people and I wanted to be there for my clients, from initial contact to walking the full journey with them, which is what I have achieved. Personally, I joined the organisation as a single mom to two little boys and they are my WHY for waking up and doing what I do. My role at Carrick has enabled me to be the best mom I can be for my boys and continue to besomething I know I would have struggled with being in a different job. I have also discovered and learnt a lot about myself, my strengths as a person and as a woman, realising that nothing is impossible or beyond me as Tatenda, female Wealth Manager and single mother.

What is a typical day at work like for you?

A typical day for me consists of green tea at my desk, checking emails, catching up with the Business Development Specialists on the previous day’s activities and planning for the new day. Also, in and out of meetings throughout the day, doing the school run for my kids, then back in the office. If there are no more meetings, I do admin and planning for the next day. Sometimes late meetings go up to 7pm but I try not to make this a habit as I have homework with the kids to do.
