Carrick Wealth appoints Gomez Kumwenda as Managing Director of Malawi office
Kumwenda has a B.Comm (Honours) in Economics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a M.Sc. in Risk Management from Birmingham City University, and has more than eight years’ experience in the financial services sector.
Greg Stockton, Director: Wealth Management and Advisory, and who heads the Carrick International Division, said the Malawi office was the latest to open as part of Carrick’s expansion into the rest of Africa.
“Establishing a new office requires a certain type of leader,” said Stockton. “Gomez has experience in econometric and financial modelling, budget preparation, risk identification, evaluation, and management. In addition, he has the ability to provide key analytical support to both individuals and company management. All of which makes him perfect for the job.”
Kumwenda pointed out that the political stability in Malawi over the last 20 years, its GDP growth in 2017 of more than 4.5% – a 2% increase over last year – together with the introduction of strong fiscal regulatory controls, made doing business in the country much more transparent, efficient, and attractive.
“I look forward to playing a key role in business decision making and analysis of the Malawi financial services market,” said Kumwenda. “My task will be to successfully implement the Carrick vision of working with clients on their long-term financial planning, helping to grow their wealth, protect it from excessive and unforeseen risk, and preserve it for their beneficiaries.”
