July is the month of service and of giving. Carrick Wealth and the Signature of Hope Trust pulled out all the stops to give time, donations and active service to worthy causes affecting the vulnerable and disadvantaged.
In Cape Town, two teams from Carrick Wealth joined LEAP Science & Maths Schools at Canal Walk to build the largest food can mosaic ever built in South Africa. LEAP stands for Learning Enrichment and Academic Progress.
The mosaic, in the shape of the Nelson Mandela Day logo, spanned 8 by 16 metres and used 6700 kg of food cans. That effort called upon the teams’ spatial ability, and familiarity and experience with completing puzzles, in order to complete the (food) logo.
After completion, the cans were distributed to social development projects in Langa, Gugulethu, Crossroads and Delft by LEAP students and staff.
Because education is so close to the hearts of the Signature of Hope trustees, it is most fitting that as a result of our Mandela Day effort we could contribute to an education cause.
In Durban and Johannesburg, two teams of 20 Signature of Hope Trust representatives from Carrick Wealth spent their 67 minutes of service packing meals in honour of Nelson Mandela and so followed his example by being of service to humanity.
These meals are distributed by the Stop Hunger Now organisation, which delivers food and life-saving aid to the world’s most vulnerable people, working to end global hunger in our lifetime.
